Small Shop in Spring, TX Gets Major Exposure Through Discover’s Minority Restaurant Initiative

Nestled away in Spring, TX, there is a small sub shop with a small staff accomplishing major milestones. Baldwin, Louisiana native Bobby Narcisse is the Owner of Go Cajun Subs, and recently, his team did an incredible thing! Go Cajuns’ entered into Discover’s #eatitforward campaign through social media and hit the grand prize of $25,000 in grant funding.

There were only two Houston area restaurants chosen at the time out of thousands who had entered into the campaign, That’s My Dog (Katy, TX) and Go Cajun Subs. Discover’s initiative was created during the pandemic and an uprising to stimulate the economy of African-American restaurants.

In a brief chat with Narcisse, he stated, “I wanted to be a beacon of hope to other young black men throughout the African-American community, and to anyone who has ever dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur. Before I found out about the Discover campaign, I created a Go Fund Me page to assist in raising money for essential workers and supplies I needed to expand my business. Go Fund Me awarded me a $500 grant and I received donations from my incredible supporters; anything helps.

The community has been very vocal through action towards my restaurant; I’m thankful. When I first won, I didn’t realize it was real until the check came. Also, local television stations began to reach out for interviews, which is always a cool experience because I am invested physically in my shop daily. Honestly, I’m looking forward to paying off some bills and getting caught up with expenses.

There are a few things around the shop that need to be fixed and the extra change will assist with providing my customers with a better experience. I’m thankful for my team, my loyal customers, and all those who had a hand in voting online. My traffic has grown tremendously during this time with more patrons who look just like you and me; it feels good. I’m always asking, “How did you hear about us?” We have people traveling from different parts of Houston to dine or take-out with us. I’m grateful.”

Narcisse expressed growing up, he always had a dream to own his own restaurant filled with nostalgic family-owned recipes and a unique flavor you can’t get anywhere else. He also encourages those who are seeking funding to not be afraid to ask and seek help especially in trying times such as the pandemic and an economic downturn.

Discover is still at it, giving an incredible lump sum to Black-owned restaurants that you know of that could use $25,000.
