About

KIN + DIGNITY® Magazine is an independent literary publication exploring the Black South through a small town and rural lens.

Founded in June 2019 and launched on August 18, 2019, by a rural Alabama native, the magazine serves as a reclamation of our cultural heritage. Through powerful narratives, poetry, and art, we honor the unpaved roads that define our heritage and inspire our future.

Our mission is to shed light on the untold impact of Black culture in small towns and rural communities throughout the South, where the culture is overlooked, forgotten, and dismissed.

We live by three core principles that guide our work: Representation, Education, and Preservation, collectively known as REP. These principals play a crucial role in shaping our mission and driving us forward towards our goals.
